Throughout history the martial arts have continued to evolve always looking for better methods and techniques. Our own style, Kankoko No Ryu, is typical of this philosophy. We follow a traditional Korean syllabus for grading while encouraging improvement of our students through their experience of other martial arts.
Over the years our instructors have trained with many top martial arts exponents from a wide range of disciplines including Wado Ryu, Aki-Jitsu, Ming Chuan Kung Fu and Tai Chi. These styles not only feature the striking and kicking techniques used in mainstream Karate but also locks and throws. We include many of these techniques in the self defence element of our syllabus. We also teach weapon defences against both traditional and modern weapons.
The fundamental blocks and punches are common to most styles although slight variations exist depending on origin. The techniques we teach are our own interpretation of these moves.
Competition Kumite (fighting) and Kata (patterns) are also taught. Our members have successfully competed at both National and International level. In addition to the Korean hyung (patterns), studied as part of our syllabus, we teach Japanese and Okinawan kata for use in W.K.F. tournaments.
The Eastern Martial Arts group is a non-profit making group made up of the Halstead, Great Cornard and Earls Colne Karate clubs. The Great Cornard and Halstead Karate clubs were established in 1989 followed Earls Colne Karate club in 1995.
We are members of SEFKA (South East Freestyle Karate Association) and FEKO (Federation of English Karate Associations).
